I loved these books!

I loved these books! JS Cooper never fails to deliver!
The Private Club part 1: What has Meg gotten herself into? What exactly is the Private Club and how involved is Brandon with Greyson? The chemistry between Meg and Greyson is unbelievable. I'm going to go crazy until part 2 comes out!

The Private Club part 2: The plot continues to thicken! Maybe, just maybe Greyson isn't as bad as we think. Or is he worse? More questions to be answered. Just what is Nancy up to and where'd she go? Will Brandon be able to answer Megs questions? I can't wait for the conclusion!

The Private Club part 3: Things aren't always as they seem. This final book in the Private Club answered lots of questions. The chemistry between Meg and Greyson is off the chart! I can't wait to read The Love Trials to find out all the secrets of the Private Club and what happened to Nancy.

Worth Reading!!!

The Private Club Boxed Set is a great read. Meg believes she has an interview at a private club for a bartending position. Greyson is one of the sexy owners of the club and the chemistry between the two is hot, making this book one steamy read. Even though we have yet to figure out what the position is, there are secrets within the club that makes you want to know exactly what is going on and for Meg having a little fun with the sexy owner isn’t a bad or is it? Greyson warns Meg that she should run as far away from him as fast as possible but his warnings go unheard as lust has taken over. Things are definitely not what they seem and you will realize after reading this series that what you thought was very, very, wrong. The twist within this series is will blindside you at every turn in a great way. I love that this series gives us the story of how The Private Club was formed between friends and how Greyson’s past had a part to do with the man he is. This series was an excellent, steamy read full of suspense and surprises and I look forward to reading future books from author J.S. Cooper.

If you read Ex Games, you'll be familiar with characters in this series. If not, the series can be read separate and wet your appetite to read Ex Games. This is the story of Meg and Greyson (I so love this character). Meg applies for a job at The Private Club, thinking to be a bartender and meets Greyson, one of the owners. Yet, the Private Club is more than it seems. Greyson is more than he seems too. This is a great way to purchase this series, so you don't have to wait between books. JS Cooper has the most amazing ideas for her books and just when you think you know where it is going, she totally surprises you.

Personal stories of hope weaved into unique art!

This is a great book for anyone who has gone through or who is going through infertility, miscarriage or the loss of an infant/child. As someone who has experienced a miscarriage, I especially love the personal notes and Scripture on the back of each page. It made me feel like I had made a few new friends and that though this time may feel lonely, that I am not alone. There is something so comforting in sharing your loss, in having another acknowledge your pain and to know that you are not the only one who has gone through this tragedy. The stories of hope in this book encourage my heart, my own hope and my faith to know that joy does come in the morning and it can come during mourning as well.

Author Ken Gullette has studied martial arts since September 20, 1973. He began studying the internal arts in 1987, earned a black sash in one system and then began studying with students and disciples of the Chen family and also he has learned directly from Chen family members. As he describes in the book, Ken had been studying Tai Chi for a decade before encountering Chen Tai Chi, and within an hour of his first experience, he knew that everything he had learned to that point had been empty. It was a paradigm change that caused him to redirect his training. Since that time, he has gained a worldwide following. He is a tournament champion, a patient and good-natured instructor and coach, and the owner of an online membership website with more than 600 video lessons and members from Japan to Israel, from the U.S. to Europe and Australia. His instructional DVDs sell worldwide, and he continues to study and improve, passing along his knowledge in a clear, easy-to-understand manner.

Nothing, I Mean Nothing...

I bought this book about an hour ago because all the reviews are 5-star. And my interest mounted when I read the first section "Are you wasting time in the Internal Arts?". The author described in this section how he had wasted so many years before he started meeting and learning from real masters who knew the real deal. There was a smile on my face as there were 25 exercises/sections to follow. May be I could learn some real deals too?

Let me describe the first exercise briefly: find a partner to push on your shoulder. Just relax, don't tense up, don't push back, and just establish a ground connection. Your partner will feel like pushing into something solid. Very good, but how exactly can one do that? Just when I was wondering while reading on, the author reminded me that I could always find additional information from his other ebooks and DVD. OK, how about the other exercises/sections?

The following 24 exercises/sections are all similar. You partner will pull, push, press, lift you, twist your wrist etc., etc. And you should relax and establish a ground connection. But again, how exactly that is done is not described in usable details. Again, the author would remind you of his other ebooks and DVD.

So why should I pay five dollars for this ebook that practically teaches nothing, except saying that ground connection is important? I would gladly pay 5 thousand or even a lot more for the real deal but 5 dollars for this useless ebook is simply way too much.

I spent several years on and off learning Internal Martial Arts from two masters and even a grandmaster. I don't know much but whenever I was asked how one can resist a push by establishing a ground. I could always explain the basics in just a few sentences. Here is how. Supposing your opponent is standing on the right and you are on the left with a horse stand. Your opponent is pushing onto your chest. This is his force acting onto you: ⇐. You relax and sink your body weight (or center of gravity) just a tad pointing to his feet. Your body weight is acting on him like this: ⇘. The sum of these two forces is ⇐ + ⇘ = ⇙, which is a force going towards the ground through your back leg. i.e. your opponent is basically pushing into the ground at an angle through your back leg. He would not push you back a single inch no matter how hard he tried. And you can relax and drink a cup of tea while your opponent is pushing.

The variations could be very complicated and the real masters could do it standing straight up on one leg. Not me of course. That is why I wanted to learn more by buying this book now that I don't have time to take real lessons. As you can see, I am not totally ignorant in Internal Martial Arts. And when I say this book teaches nothing, I sincerely mean nothing.

Great for any Martial Arts practitioner

This excellent book provides drills, illustrations and very well described instructions on how to become like "iron wrapped in cotton."

One great feature of the book is how it dispels many of the illusions surrounding notions of internal strength and all the mystical woo-woo that certain Martial Arts practitioners have allowed to grow around it. There are huge benefits in this book merely for the education one receives on that account. After all, the dispelling of illusions is what we are after in our personal practice, not building them up.

Each exercise comes with very well done photographs and descriptions. The exercises develop ground strength so that you build balance and structure, and the best part is that we learn how to engage in many of the exercises even without a partner.

My only quibble with the book is that the author sometimes talks about reducing an adversary to particular body parts instead of seeing the attacker as a whole. It is good that the purpose of doing this is to bring the attacker closer so that he can be controlled, but I caution against narrowing one's focus in this way lest one lose sight of the entire context - which may include more than one attacker.

Overall, this is a well written book with top-notch illustrations and valuable exercises that I am already benefiting from with a greater sense of power and ease with respect to using the floor and the dynamics of my attacker's body. I'm definitely going to seek out the DVD version and recommend that after reading this book, you do the same!

Excellent intro to tai chi

Sifu Gullette provides an introduction to tai chi in an easy to understand writing style. He describes the six crucial skills for quality tai chi, including maintaining the ground path, peng, whole body movement, silk reeling, dantien rotation, and using the kua. He also includes illustrative exercises which can be practiced with a partner. Although I am a beginner, and not ready to do partner exercises, the information in the book reminds me to apply these six skills in my daily practice of the Chen style Laojia Yilu. This book is an excellent supplement to taking classes with a qualified tai chi instructor.

About the Author
Hans C. Ohanian received his B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Ph.D. from Princeton University, where he worked with John A. Wheeler. He has taught at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Union College, and the University of Vermont. He is the author of several textbooks spanning all undergraduate levels: Physics, Principles of Physics, Relativity: A Modern Introduction, Modern Physics, Principles of Quantum Mechanics, Classical Electrodynamics, and, with Remo Ruffini, Gravitation and Spacetime. He is also the author of dozens of articles dealing with gravitation, relativity, and quantum theory, including many articles on fundamental physics published in the American Journal of Physics, where he served as associate editor for some years. He lives in Vermont.

Makes you think

Alright, there are some clear weaknesses with this book. The major one is that the explanations of problem solving are not very good and the examples are not very much help at all.

Essentially, one needs to read Ohanian first, read another physics text to figure out how to solve the problems, then read Ohanian again to figure out what the other textbook missed.

That is the advantage of Ohanian, though. This is a text that is for physicists and other scientists and engineers who need a _real_ introduction and understanding of physics, not just a superficial one that babies you along. At every stage you're expected to fully understand the material presented.

The chapter problems and exercises are the other strength of Ohanian. Problems are categorized by difficulty from 0 to 3 stars, with 3 stars being the most challenging. The 0-star problems are straightforward while the 3-star problems truly tax the knowledge of even the most superior student and require full understanding of all the material in the chapter (and often preceeding chapters as well). The fact that the solutions in the rear of the book (every other answer only) are frequently completely wrong for the 2- and 3-star problems is a testament to this.

In summary, Ohanian is an excellent choice for an honors or advanced freshman/sophomore course in physics. It is perhaps a little too intense for a standard calculus-based introduction to physics course, or an AP Physics course, however.

Surprised that it's not popular--Such a great book

This is one of the better textbooks for introductory Physics for science majors. Halliday, Resnick and Walker's emphasizes on problem solvings; Serway's makes great balance between concepts and applications; Giancoli's is more conceptual oriented; Young and Freedman's has a lot of excellent problems and explains concepts very well; Tipler's is quite boring and concise. It's always nice to read a newly published classical physics textbook to see how the same subject is presented differently by the different authors. But since this book emphasizes the practical aspects of physics, it's probably more welcome than the others for a college level cal based introductory physics course. Get the Answer book, very helpful: 039395756X

Highly Recommended!

I am shocked to see such lousy responses to this book. I have been using this book for two semesters in college and have had nothing but success with it. I have over 15 physics books and the most thorough and complete one is the Ohanian one. The strategy of this book is to teach physics with a calculus approach instead of a simplified version for the weak. Classical physics was developed by Newton, and he developed it using calculus, so this is the way to go if the serious student wants to learn and really understand classical physics. Also, I have encountered very few errors in this book, so if your solution doesn't agree with Ohanian's, it may be due to a mistake on your part.

About the Author

Dr. Socorro Herrera serves as a professor of Elementary Education at Kansas State University and directs the Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy (CIMA) in the College of Education. Her K-12 teaching experience includes an emphasis on literacy development and her research focuses on literacy opportunities with culturally and linguistically diverse students, reading strategies, and teacher preparation for diversity in the classroom. Dr. Herrera has published three books with Allyn and Bacon: Mastering ESL and Bilingual Methods: Differentiated Instruction for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students (2005), Assessment Accommodations for Classroom Teachers of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students (2007), and most recently, Teaching Reading to English Language Learners: Differentiated Literacies (2010).�She has authored articles for numerous nationally known journals such as the Bilingual Research Journal, Journal of Hispanic Higher Education, Journal of Research in Education, and the Journal of Latinos and Education.

Dr. Kevin Murry is currently an Associate Professor of Secondary Education at Kansas State University and Director of Research and Development for the Center for Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy (CIMA) in the College of Education. His work in research and development has focused on ESL/dual language programming in secondary public schools and teachers’ accommodation readiness for CLD students whose first language is not English and for transnational students. Dr. Murry's recent research has emphasized differentiated assessment strategies for CLD students, the professional development of highly qualified teachers for ELL students, the linguistic and cross-cultural dynamics of ESL instruction, and school restructuring for linguistic diversity. �His recent publications have appeared in the Journal of Teaching and Learning, Reading and Writing Quarterly, AACTE Briefs, the Journal of Latinos and Education, as well as, Teacher Education and Practice.�

Great resorce

I would strongly disagree with another reviewer. I love the book; it was used for my very last class in the ESL licensure program. The book is full of theory and research references, and it was not difficult at all to read! My copy is full of underlines and highlights, and it is very well organized. I consider it one of the most important books in my professional library. This particular book helped me reach the pinnacle of the magnitude of knowledge related to the field of ESL teaching and learning. This strong knowledge helped me go easily through my job interview and get an interesting and exciting job. If you are devoted to the field of ESL teaching and learning, you would find this book as helpful as I do.

Mastering ESL and Bilingual Methods: Differentiated Instruction for Culturally and Linguistially Diverse (CLD) Students

This is a well-written text, which is excellent at explaining methodologies and approaches to teaching CLD students. At times, it is repetitive, but the field notes scattered throughout each chapter, as well as the summaries at the end of each chapter, assist in driving home the theme of the chapter. The authors also introduce the term culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) as a more appropriate description of ELLs because of the knowledge and resources they can bring to the classroom.

ESL Methods class purchase

This is the older version of the book required for my class. There were not many differences between the newest version and this one. The vital information is the same and I got through class just fine with this version. The biggest difference the two versions was a couple of charts and tables in the newer edition. I do not regret saving the money and purchasing the older edition. :)
