"Editor Vince Emery humanizes the slain politician. Angry, intelligent, and wickedly funny, Milk comes to glorious life. . . . Milk's eloquent words should be memorized by anyone who needs ammunition for hetero-political family gatherings. They also made me laugh out loud." —Tom Eubanks, Lambda Literary Review
"This fascinating book gives us more insight into just what a political genius Milk was. Not lost here was Milk's manic wit, a powerful weapon against his often humorless, dour enemies. I laughed out loud." —Matthew Hays, Gay & Lesbian Review
"Studded with photographs that enhance Milk's testimony, the book tells the emotional history of this unforgettable gay advocate. His personality shines and often bubbles over. Emery includes intensive, eye-opening interviews . . . The fiery volley between Milk and Briggs is amazing." —Bay Area Reporter (June 14, 2012)

Harvey Milk In His Own Words
By Drassie
I'll try to make this brief. In my humble opinion, this is the best book that I've read about Harvey Milk. I bought a hardcover copy, but it's so good that I will buy a kindle copy. It's one of the books I always want to have with me everywhere I go because it's very special to me. I just requested the kindle copy. Hopefully, the publisher will make it available. It's an honour and a privilege to read Harvey's own words. He was a highly intelligent man who fought for what he believed in: civil rights for the LGBT community and some other minority groups. I felt like I was able to get inside his head. I'm so grateful to Vince Emery, the editor, for doing an amazing job. His introductions and explanations of each interview are extremely helpful. In addition, he writes in a way that is very easy to understand. There are lots of things that Harvey Milk fans will love such as the first questionnaire he filled out for political candidacy, nice pictures, buttons, playbills, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and plan to read it as many times as possible. I highly recommend it to everyone.

A Warrior of a Man
By Jeffrey P Phillips
This book helped me get into the mind and get a sense of who the Public Harvey Milk was, and what I as a man can strive for. He wasn't a perfect man, however, he was a warrior in the truest sense of the word.
