Each book in this series is better than the last

Each book in this series is better than the last! While the first book reminded me a bit of the Harry Potter books, they diverged by the second book and now are completely different. The characters-Max, David, etc. are 3 dimensional and fascinating. I am a plot driven reader and there was no disappointment here! The writing has become more sophisticated with each book, and I feel that they would be more appropriately categorized as young adult (though I sure have enjoyed them). I highly recommend anything written by Henry Neff!

Stermole, B.S., M.S., Ph.D., Chemical Engineering, Iowa State University, is Professor Emeritus of Mineral Economics and Chemical and Petroleum Refining at Colorado School of Mines, where he has taught since 1963. John M Stermole, B.S.B.A., Finance, University of Denver and M.S., Mineral Economics, Colorado School of Mines. John has taught as a Lecturer at Colorado School of Mines for the Departments of Mineral Economics and Chemical Engineering since 1988 and as an Adjunct Professor at The University of Denver, College of Law in the Natural Resources and Environmental Law Program. John served as a Fellow to the Institute for Global Resources Policy at Colorado School of Mines and co-authored the 1st Edition of the Global Mining Taxation Comparative Study. Combined, both authors have presented more than 850 Economic Evaluation short courses to more than 18,500 people from mineral, petroleum, and non-mineral companies and government agencies all over the world.

I was required to use the 13th edition for class in college. I bought the 10th edition. They match word-for-word, no difference whatsoever. The book itself is just okay. It explains the concepts quite decently.

This is a well thought out, logically presented book for the economic modeller. It has a mining or petroleum economic emphasis, but the concepts are applicable to any field. It contains many examples and a lot of specific information about different types of analysis and when to use them. It focuses mainly on deterministic, individual project analysis, with little mention madeo fprobabilistic or portfolio analysis.

It is a real practitioner's handbook.

Insightful study of heroic quests in cinema

You’ll be surprised by how many celebrated films are driven by a hero or heroine’s quest to overcome daunting obstacles and fulfill their destinies as complete individuals. Maria Garcia finds intriguing and unexpected connections between a wildly diverse group of films, ranging in genre from screwball comedy to westerns, from fairy tales to thrillers, even baseball movies! Her chapter on The Silence of the Lambs brilliantly uncovers and dissects the myriad symbols and motifs in that popular suspense film and will have you eager to watch it again for its carefully layered subtext. In all, this is an insightful, fresh examination of centuries-old archetypes and the crucial role they play in so much of our movie entertainment.

Good writing, solid research.

“Cinematic Quests for Identity” is a scholarly book (it has footnotes and a bibliography), but it is written in the style of long-form journalism, of the kind you read in The New Yorker. I think students and professors of film and literature will want to read it. The author’s expertise is in film, but she spends a lot of time talking about how the conventions of quest films are based on epic poems such as Chrétien de Troyes’s “Perceval,” and on Greek mythology. I like that Garcia writes about the female quest as different from the male quest and the child’s quest. Also, she is a feminist writer, so when she discusses Greek myths, or Darwinian theory, she has a completely different take on these stories. I just wish it were in Italian!

Individual items in this book are permission-free, and may be used (up to ten items per use) without permission, payment, or credit line. Calligraphers find Bickham the best source for English round-handwriting; commercial artists, advertising directors, and designers all find Bickham first-rate as a source for immediately usable pictures and script that suggests antiquity, quality, and reliability. Craftspeople have found it rich in unusual ideas and motifs, while libraries and art historians find it a wonderful collection of 18th-century pictures illustrating art-life.

Fascinating!

This book is amazing! I bought it for a school project my daughter was working on in school about Colonial America, to show the kind of book people used to write from back then. It is beautiful and the calligraphy is amazing. As a historical item it is definitely worth buying, however, if you are wanting to LEARN how to do it, there are other books that are better. Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy, a Step-by-Step Manual is one good choice.

The "Universal Penman" is an excellent example of 18th century engravings. The engravings are amazing. The talent of the artists inspires both the beginning and advanced student of penmanship.

About the Author

Dennis Deninger is an Emmy-award winning television production executive and innovative educator who has produced live sports television from six continents and across the USA. He teaches at the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics and the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, both at Syracuse University, his alma mater. Deninger has created graduate and undergraduate level courses, and is the founding director of the Newhouse School’s sports communications emphasis program.

Deninger spent twenty-five years at ESPN leading production teams for studio programming, live remote events and digital video platforms. He joined ESPN in October 1982 as one of the first four coordinating producers for SportsCenter and held that position until 1986. That was the year he created the Scholastic Sports America series which continued for fifteen years on ESPN. During the course of his career at ESPN, Dennis Deninger launched more than a dozen new televised series and events including the National Spelling Bee, Major League Soccer, and Racing to the Kentucky Derby, plus he created the most successful daily sports video series in the history of the internet, SportsCenter Right Now, which was originally titled the SportsCenter Minute.

Dennis Deninger has won Emmy Awards for innovation in sports television, production on digital platforms, and educational television. He developed for American television the digital instant review technology called "Shot Spot" now in use at virtually all major tennis tournaments.

He launched ESPN’s coverage.of Wimbledon and the French Open, plus was the executive in charge of production for a dozen Australian Opens, Friday Night Fights, Triple Crown horse racing, PBA bowling and a variety of other live events.

As Coordinating Producer for World Cup ’94, Dennis Deninger was responsible for all coverage on ABC and ESPN. He and his team created the first continuously displayed sponsored score-box for live sports which has become a staple of American television.

He won an Emmy and three Parents’ Choice Awards, plus the National Clarion Award as executive producer of ESPN SportsFigures, an educational series that shows how math and science are at work in every sport.

Deninger is on the board of directors of the Cheshire Education Foundation, which works to enhance public education in Cheshire, CT. He served as an elected member of the Cheshire Board of Education from 1993-97. Each year Dennis returns to his hometown of Hornell, NY to serve as master of ceremonies for the annual "Sports Night" Special Olympics fundraiser.

Dennis resides in Cheshire, CT with his wife Gail. They have two sons, Matthew and Kevin.

Sports On Television

This is the most comprehensive and thorough book on sports television to date. Author and long time ESPN executive Dennis Denninger gives great perspective from the early days to why sports television is the most dominant force in the explosive growth in sports business today. It also gives your the nuts and bolts inside the control room and inside the board rooms, where executives have leveraged their position as the biggest window to the consumer to fuel the dramatic revenue growth in all areas of sports-content, merchandise, advertising and sponsorship. A must for anyone who wants to be part of this dynamic field.

I am very proud to review this book for my very good friend Dennis. He grew up across from our street in Hornell, NY. We shared alot of memories and still do, with his wife, my wife, and our families. This is a wonderful textbook and a great read about sports and television. This is a guy who grew up from through the roots of America and proves that anybody can. Just because he is one of my best friends, does'nt mean anything. Everyone who enjoys SPORTS and TELEVISION will learn and enjoy this publication. No BS, I love this book and know you will to. Berto from Homer, Ny
