This book says it all!

When I hear the word, "bouncer", I picture a shaved headed thug, tattooed tough guy wannabe, who will do more to incite a confrontation as opposed to defusing it.

"Hammer" dispels this stereotype and infuses the bouncer "profession" with professionalism. He provides in-depth information on recognizing potential patron trouble makers and goes to lengths explaining how to verbally diffuse most situations. Unfortunately, not every situation can be verbally diffused. "Hammer" then goes into effective, low level empty hand techniques designed to control the unruly patron and the situation. If those techniques are not sufficient to control the patron and protect the bouncer, defensive counterstrikes are introduced.

As the old adage goes, "the job isn't finished until the paperwork is done", the reader is educated on effective report writing and the liability issue of its importance. Sometimes these confrontations result in civil or criminal legal proceedings. It's not worth winning the battle on the scene if you are going to lose it (for yourself or your employer) in the courtroom.

This book is a "must read" for bar, club and restaurant owners who employ security personnel for their venues. This book is a "must read" for security staff who are committed to acting and performing their jobs professionally.

This fascinating book is a quick read. It gives an insight into the mental state of a bar patron that is ready to start a fight, and how to deal with him or her to defuse the situation. I enjoyed learning about the mental aspect of being a bouncer, and how to work with the bar patron that has fire in his eyes and wants an excuse to start a brawl. Part of the fascinating picture is the benefit of being professional versus the risks not being professional: injuries, physical damage to the bar, and lawsuits. Also the book is peppered with news stories of bar security gone wrong: bar operators and bouncers being sued, bouncers being attached later, even patrons banned from their favorite joints. I would buy the book again.

Worth sharing

This is a very well researched and written book directed at a line of work that is often staffed by anything but professionals. The information on evaluating potential problem people and suggestions on how to defuse dangerous situations is very helpful, and the post incident recommendations can help protect a bouncer who just did his job. I've bought multiple copies to share with friends of mine that work as bouncers and need the information provided in the book.

I Expected Better...(Spoiler Alert)

After Murderville 1 and 2, I was so excited to read this book because I knew it would be a great read. Turns out it was just decent. Usually I would rate a 5/5 but it does not deserve it.It's like their new books can't compare to the old ones. What I'm beginning to notice is that all their characters talk the same, look the same, and act the same. If someone would have told me Leah was Dahlia and Disaya was Liberty, I wouldn't even be surprised. It's the same characters but different story. Some of the scenes on Murderville 3 were repetitive and just so unrealistic. The part when Dahlia killed Zulu and automatically got the respect of the African Mafia. Really??? She just killed their leader and these so called ruthless men all bow down like they wasn't ready to kill her minutes before. That whole scene made me mad. Then Rocko and Libery relationship was not as genuine as the authors tried to make it be. As I kept reading, I couldn't find one good reason why they loved each other.It just seemed so random that they ended up being together. Rocko claimed to be the type of guy that was unaffected by women but on another page he's talking about craving Liberty. Well which is it?... And Liberty claims to love Rocko but clearly he is a rebound cause she just now started noticing him. Another part that seemed ridiculous was Liberty's and Abia's unusual friendship. How can Liberty call her a mother figure and be so cool with the fact that Abia sold her. If anything she should be raging mad at Abia for making her go through all that BS with Samad. Abia could care less about Liberty so that whole scene of them hugging and talking like old pals was fake. The authors even threw in a flashback to prove my point.I guess the redeeming quality of the book would be the fact that Dahlia died and it had a good ending. If the ending was crappy I would probably give it a 1/5.

Glad it's over with

Let me say I love A&J's work. They are a brillant duo. But I do tire of the series, especially waiting on them year by year. This book was OK but it wasn't jaw dropping, which proves my point exactly. If you continue to draw these books out, the thrill is no longer there. But as for this one, I can say I'm glad the ending was different from their usual. Dahlia was a piece of work but her fate goes to show that greed can be your downfall. I don't see how Liberty lived the life she did and couldn't handle her cousin. And it's funny how all of a sudden Po finally realized what was really going on. I did like how the previous characters came together. I saw one reviewer said true fans didn't need a reminder of who was who-I disagree. I have read every book they have put out. A&J write a lot of books and in between they are putting out book installments. Sometimes so much time has passed that you need a reminder.

Not a good Finale

The series itself drifted off and was way to predictable.... I don't lke how they had Liberty switching sides so easliy. and I dont llike how Dahlia met her demise so suddenly after her build up from the last book. I do like how they brought the Cartel, Dopfiend and Supreme Clientele series together thought! but this book was a dud for a finale

A young girl's painful first love and the unresolved feelings of the relationship are the crux of this novel, which moves from West Sussex in 1980 to Alloa, Scotland and New York. When Claire Barclay's widowed mother meets and marries the kind, gentle Leo Harrison, fifteen years her senior, mother and daughter move to Leo's rambling home in Scotland, a place Claire grows to love. Although she is never accepted by her jealous step-siblings, Charity and Marcus, Claire basks in Leo's generous affection, the only flaw in her world the abrupt and inexplicable ending to her close friendship (on the cusp of romance) with Jonas Fairweather, whose father works on Leo's estate.

Claire learns to put heartbreak behind, albeit unresolved, until her mixed emotions resurface years later after her mother's unexpected death and Leo's failing health. Suddenly Claire is back in Scotland with her husband and small daughter, faced with a confusing set of circumstances and a scheme that may threaten Leo's future security. Until old issues are put to rest and new troubles confronted, Claire's peace of mind remains elusive. At the heart of the novel is the unresolved breakup between Claire and Jonas, made more difficult by the uncertainty of Leo's future, the elderly man caught between his step daughter and his adult children, who have ideas of their own.

This novel might have more impact were the characters and their conflicts less superficial and formulaic. But it is hard to credit a young woman's loss of first love and the rancor still carried towards her by Marcus and Charity, let alone Fairweather's prominence in the story. The plot remains mired in petty, if expensive grievances. Pilcher does capture Claire's idyllic childhood in Scotland and writes with flair of the details of place. Yet the conflict at the heart of the story is less than satisfactory, the characters not quite memorable. Luan Gaines/2010.

Engrossing, but not as good as his earlier books

I'm a fan of Robin Pilcher and couldn't wait to get his latest book. I was put off at first by the way he shifts back and forth to various years, and found I had to keep checking back to see what year I was reading about. Did he think the plot wouldn't stand if he wrote chronologically? I also got impatient in the middle and cheated to see the ending. And then I got engrossed again and read every word.

I don't want to give away the plot, so let me say that what I especially liked about this book is that it is a man writing about relationships, not just romantic ones, but family and more. However, he also brings in subjects most female authors don't, such as business and finance, so his plots gets involved and interesting. In the end I found the plot and the characters believable.

If you are a Pilcher fan, either of Robin or his mother, do buy this book! But if you are just being introduced to this author, I recommend that you start with one of his earlier books.

Note that this book is being simultaneously published in the UK under a different title. So don't buy another book of Pilcher's with the characters Claire, Violet, Leo, Jonas, Art.

Complete for an elementary treatment.

Elementary but relatively complete, this book treats theory beyond that mentioned in other books such as those by Jeans, Loeb, and Present. Kauzmann's treatment of real gases is particularly useful because there are no perfect gases. He refers to a volume II in this book, which I would also like to acquire, but if it was ever published I don't know when or under what title. Perhaps a kind reader could inform me of this information.

A Highly Useful Resource!!

As a couples therapist, I have long suggested Stan Tatkin’s books to my clients as an significant part of therapy and their ongoing journey as a couple. Now Stan has presented the perfect companion for those clients who have not yet paired up, are in the beginning stages of pairing up, or even those who are in relationship but want to deepen their understanding of attraction, commitment and longterm success in relationship. In this new book, Stan offers the “science” of attachment, neurobiology, arousal systems along with practical skill based exercises to guide the reader in the picking, vetting, dating and committing process. Stan’s natural ability to relate his brilliance and interpersonal self is felt on every page of this book! I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the journey of dating.

Dr. Tatkin's Books Helped Us Create the Best Relationship!

I love all of Dr. Stan Tatkin's work and have also read Wired for Love and listened to his entire audio program, Your Brain on Love. I highly, highly recommend his books and have interviewed him on my radio show and YouTube channel 4 times now, which is probably more than anyone else in the 8 years the show has been on the air. Wired for Dating will give you a basic understanding of attachment types, helpful stories that provide some context, and exercises to give you practice and insight into your reactive patterns in dating and relationships. Dr. Tatkin's work has transformed my relationship and I have finally been able to create a "secure functioning" relationship within a "couple bubble" that gives me and my partner the secure attachment we didn't get as kids. We both feel so grateful to have discovered his material and I wish this stuff was common knowledge. Even if your childhood attachments were great and your relationships have been solid, if you're out in the world of dating, you're going to bump into people who didn't have that experience. It's helpful to know how to relate and communicate with authenticity in a way that isn't likely to trigger them. You'll learn a lot about yourself and the people you're dating.

The exercises are explicit and easy to follow

This is very different from other books on dating because of the psychobiological approach. The explanation of different attachment styles and how it relates to understanding the connection between the couple from the beginning to ongoing relationships is so clear and the case examples make it very relatable. The exercises are explicit and easy to follow. I especially appreciated the chapter teaching people how to calm their partner's nervous system as well as their own. I will highly recommend this book to friends and therapy clients, to those are dating and as an adjunct to Wired for Love.
