this book has been a great introduction to this relatively new and popular strength-training system
By Margot C.
As a beginner to working out with a suspension trainer (commonly known by the brand name TRX), this book has been a great introduction to this relatively new and popular strength-training system. The author breaks it down so you understand what the suspension trainer is, as well as the variations available on the market (like one anchor point or two) and even how to make one yourself. There’s a whole section on basic movements and positions with the suspension trainer, which helps show all the different ways it can be used without necessarily doing a full workout. The different workout programs are divided up so there’s something for everyone, from basic upper- and lower- body circuits to sport-specific workouts for activities like basketball and swimming. The exercises are explained very clearly with step-by-step photos—but that doesn’t mean they’re easy. Because the exercises are all about instability, your body has to use all kinds of muscles you probably didn’t know existed. Even just the first time I tried to do a basic plank with both hands in the suspension trainer, I completely tipped over and had to do it again. I can tell that Suspended Bodyweight Training will definitely help amp up my strength-training—especially for my core!

Fun Workout!
By Elizabeth Elle
I’ve seen the suspended bodyweight trainer at the gym a few times and I was always curious, but too intimidated to ask how to use it. I picked up this book because it seemed to have a lot of information and directions, and I was not disappointed! One thing that makes this book different is that the author is the real deal, a doctor and a physical therapist. If I want anyone teaching me about a new gym toy, it’s this guy! This book begins with the usual introductions for beginners, and it is all informative and interesting to read. I appreciate how the author doesn’t hide the reason most of us are interested in suspended bodyweight: it looks fun! He admits that it is fun, and embraces this fact as well as informing the reader about how it is a useful exercise tool. The author also gives an overview of some muscles, which is great. I always need a refresher on muscles, and I love it when books on exercise EXPLAIN why you’re doing these crazy things and how it helps! The book gives detailed instructions on specific exercises, as well as pre-set workouts to try. This book is great for beginning something new, or expanding your knowledge on a work-out you love! If you’re curious about suspended bodyweight training like I was, definitely pick this up and read through it. You’ll learn a lot!

Fantastic resource but workouts lists on mobile Kindle needs work
By GeekyGirl
2015-08-12 So I'm a beginner at suspension training, and started out with this fun device to get stronger for rock climbing in particular, which I'm also a beginner at. (I'm a forty something tall gal) So far I've done a bunch of the stretches only - the exercises and the descriptions really excellent. Can't wait to get into the workouts, which look great. Generally the Kindle version is fantastic - the table of contents is detailed enough, the photos are great and the instructions are easy to follow. Leung comes across as a sensible and patient person I'd like to meet, me who cannot do a 'real' push up yet. Some of the exercises I can do already, others I think I have to get stronger before trying the beginner version.
HOWEVER A note about the Kindle version on windows phone 8.1 though.... So far I'm still using the short videos from Lifeline USA for their Jungle Gym XT trainer to get a 30min full body workout that kicks butt.
The reason I've not started the full body or general workouts from this book yet is the impossibility of easily flipping from a workout that just LISTS the exercises through to each exercise's (excellent) black and white photos and descriptions.
Really???
Each workout, example legs / arms & shoulders / core, already lists the exercises to do, number of reps / duration and page numbers(!) on the Kindle version.
The Kindle version should be changed to show a jump link in the workout to each exercise AND at the end of each exercise there should be a jump link back to each workout that used that exercise. Then you can actually USE the workout regimes in this book's kindle version on a mobile phone, which is the most convenient way to refer to the book.
For those with better memories this may not be such a big deal. Me, with my gold fish brain, really want the easy jump from work out list to exercise and back to workout list on Kindle on my phone. Looks like I'll be forced to type out each workout list and refer to them as PDFs on my phone as a workaround instead.
